Your DNS server (Domain Name Service server) information can be critically important to know if you are trying to troubleshoot a problem with your computer. Because the DNS servers are used to telling your computer what IP addresses are associated with which domain names on the Internet, they play a vital role in the operation of any web-enabled software application.

Step 1
Click "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "Command Prompt."
Step 2
Type "ipconfig /all" into the command prompt.
Step 3
Press the "Enter" key.
Step 4
Look at the "DNS Servers . . . " text in the command prompt window. The DNS server that your computer is using (as assigned by your ISP) is displayed next to it.
