How To Buy Domains
A web domain is simply the URL that others will type in order to visit your website. It can end with .com, .net, .info, .biz, .org or a variety of other endings. On average, domains cost about $5 to $20 per year and must be renewed whenever they expire in order for you to keep ownership of the domain name. There are a number of domain sellers available to choose from. Each of these sellers makes purchasing a domain a streamlined process that takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Instructions
Difficulty:
Step 1
Choose the company you'd prefer to purchase your domain from. Some popular options include godaddy.com, buydomains.com, active-domain.com, yourdomain.com and dynonames.com. Each has a list of benefits that come with the domain, so choose according to what you're looking for; for example, some come with email, some offer more space for data and the prices vary accordingly.
Step 2
Locate the search box on the domain seller's website. This is typically on the front page and is easy to locate. Above the text/search box, it should say something to the effect of, "Begin your domain name search."
Step 3
Enter your desired domain name into this box--for example, "JohnMiller" or "MyDomainName."
Step 4
Locate the drop-down menu directly to the right of the search box. Select the ending you'd prefer for your website--for example, .com, .org or .info.
Step 5
Click "Enter" ("Go" or "Search"). The domain seller will tell you if the domain name you selected is available. If it is not, re-enter your second choice for your domain name, and so forth.
Step 6
Purchase the domain name after you've found one that is available. You will need to pay online, so have access to a credit card, debit card or PayPal account.
