Building your own website can be time-consuming, difficult and expensive. With some website building programs you must know complicated HTML. With others, the end result is a cheap looking site that embarrasses you. Building a website with Google is very simple. Not only do you get a free website, the software is set up as a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), meaning that you can physically see the edits and additions that you are creating. Google even has pre-made templates that you can customize yourself.

Step 1
Go to Google's homepage and click on "More." The "More" button is located at the top of the page.

Left-click on "Sites."
Step 3
Log into your Google account. If you don't have an account, create a new one by left-clicking on "Sign up for Sites." You will need to supply your email address, create a password and input your birthday.
Step 4
Left-click on "Create Site."
Step 5
Choose a blank template or a pre-made one to work from and name your site. The name cannot be changed at a later date, so give the name of your site a lot of thought.
Step 6
Choose a theme from the drop-down menu. Left-click on the theme you like. Left-click on "Options" and set the privacy level for your site. Left-click on "Create Site."
Step 7
Left-click on "Create Page." This is where you will customize your webpage. Here you can create a new page, make an announcement on the site, a list, or create a file.
Step 8
Left-click on "Edit Page" to insert pictures, change fonts, create links and edit HTML. Google websites are set up in a user friendly WYSIWYG. To perform any of the tasks, left-click on the tab and follow all instructions. There are a plethora of drop-down menus to help you customize your page. You can upload items from your computer's hard drive by simply clicking "insert."
