How to Build a Website With a Blog

A novice user can have a blog running in almost no time.

Blogs are one of the easiest platforms available to build fully functioning websites. Most of their features are intuitive and give you a moderate level of control over how the website looks and feels. Blogs are limited compared to designing a site from scratch. They make it possible, however, to have a full-blown site up and running in less than an hour even if you have no previous knowledge of web design. That combined with the ease of use and the capability to quickly update the content make blogs an excellent choice for most users.

Instructions

Difficulty: 2

Step 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to your domain host's website.

Step 2

Click on the link to enter the control panel area. This is usually labeled "Customer Log In" or "Cpanel Log In."

Step 3

Enter your username and password to enter the client area.

Step 4

Scroll through the available control panel options and click on the domain host's proprietary blog installation software.

Step 5

Choose the type of blog you wish to create. WordPress, B2evolution and Nucleus are common choices (see Resources).

Step 6

Wait for the automatic installation to finish and fill in the blog details on the next screen. Each type of blog requires certain information to complete the installation process. Take note of the username and password provided during this phase.

Step 7

Click on the link to enter the blog dashboard.

Step 8

Scroll through the available options and click on "Theme" under the menu heading "Appearance" on the left side of the screen.

Step 9

Choose a theme that fits your blog topic from the available themes and click "Activate" to install the chosen theme.

Step 10

Click on "Pages" and choose "Add New" to create a new page for your website. A new page will create a new menu option on the website. An example is the home page, which is created by default, and an About Us page created using this method.

Step 11

Name the new page and fill in the desired text in the area below the title. Click "Publish" to create the new page.

Step 12

Repeat this process for each of the pages required for your website.

Step 13

Click on "Posts" and choose "Add New" to create a new post. By default, these new posts are added to the home page and automatically create an individual page. Posts are usually items like articles and can be configured to show short excerpts on the home page where a visitor may click to read the entire text.

Step 14

Add new posts and pages as necessary to complete the website structure and provide updates.
