Instructions
Difficulty:
Step 1
Choose the content you wish to display. Select the information to give your website a specific purpose and data that lends itself to your specific audience. If you want a business website, list all the important characteristics of a business, such as contact information, work hours and services rendered. If your website is informative, select information that will be most useful to your readers.
Step 2
Choose the layout of the website. Outline how you want all of your information presented, being sure to make it as accessible to your audience as possible. Good websites are easy to navigate without confusion.
Step 3
Program your website. Many programs can be used to make a website, including Frontpage and Dreamweaver. You can also use HTML and directly program your website. Also, there are now many online website builders that are very intuitive, allowing you to interface the program in a visual manner to construct your site. All of these methods will allow you to input words, pictures and videos in a manner that is pleasing and that conforms to your planned layout.
Step 4
Select a hosting service and a domain name. A domain name is the address of your website, while the hosting service is the server on which all your information is stored. Domain companies and hosting services will allow you to purchase specific addresses and bandwidth speeds for specialty sites. If your site does not require any special addresses or bandwidth requirements, there are many sites online that will allow for free hosting of your website. Blog sites, especially now, have a great deal of options for control over domain names.
Step 5
Publish your website. Proofread your site for any design flaws, problems with spelling and grammar, or confusing layout problems. Enlist the aid of a few friends to make sure your site is clear and easy to navigate.
Step 6
Update your website. A fresh website is fun to read and contains recent information that is of use to your audience. Plan out when you will update your website and make necessary changes to it.
